چکیده

Modern space borne SAR sensors like TerraSAR-X and COSMO-SkyMed are capable of acquiring images with a geometric ground resolution of one meter. Airborne sensors achieve even higher ground resolution. In such very high resolution SAR imagery single objects like houses and bridges become visible. However, effects due to the side-looking slant range acquisition principle of SAR, layover, foreshortening, and shadowing, complicate the interpretability of such data. Hence, one possibility is to combine extracted features from SAR imagery with features from optical images for the purpose of enhancing object recognition and reconstruction. In order to precisely combine features from both data sets within a unique statistical framework, the imaging properties and occurring effects have to be well understood. In this paper, simulations of a dense urban scene are compared to a real TerraSAR-X image. * Corresponding author. Detecting and analysing "urban villages" in the Pearl River delta using multi-source remote sensing data

‘Urban villages’ is the Chinese version of informal settlement. It is a unique phenomenon that comprises mainly low-rise and congested, often illegal buildings surrounded by new constructions and high-rise buildings. Due to a lack of an unambiguous definition allowing for a spatial delineation of such areas, this article investigates a joint use of high-resolution optical and SAR satellite data...

Building Height Estimation from High Resolution SAR Imagery via Model-Based Geometrical Structure Prediction

Height extraction by radar remote sensing is an attractive issue for the building detection and recognition. According to the analysis on the building geometrical properties in the SAR imagery, a novel height estimation algorithm is proposed following a model-based geometrical structure prediction and matching strategy. The range Doppler equation is introduced and simplified for the building 2D...

Accurate Height Change Estimation Method Using Phase Interferometry of Multiple Band-Divided SAR Images

Synthetic aperture radar (SAR) is an indispensable tool for low visibility ground surface measurement owing to its robustness against optically harsh environments such as adverse weather or darkness. As a leading-edge approach for SAR image processing, the coherent change detection (CCD) technique has been recently established; it detects a temporal change in the same region according to the ph...
